Don’t blame Islam, blame yourself
January 19, 2011

FMT LETTER: From R Shan, via e-mail

Islam has never been an issue until Dr M came into power. With the increase in the number of conversions, family disputes, and whatnot, Islam continues to take centre stage in Malaysia.

I always wondered whether Mokthar Dahari, when he played along with Arumugam, Santokh Singh, Soh Chin Aun, James Wong and Hassan Sani, was concerned with islamisation.

He was a proud son of the nation who galvanised in the sports arena the spirit of unity as Malaysians irrespective of race, religion or creed.

If you look at the history of our country, no figurehead has propelled this race and religion only agenda until Dr M came about. Sure he was the rotten egg.

Sadly today, Umno and the opposition PKR has taken his cue to spearhead elements of Islam to the extent of frightening the non Malays for their political gain and advantage.

Like it or not, Hindraf provided the watershed in GE12 unconcerned with what others thought as it waged for something universal, i.e. human rights.

The Indians became the poor, marginalised and deprived through a social engineering that was intiated by our great Dr M who wanted spoon-feed Malay society.

Islam did not seem to be an issue when he stripped the royalties (the guardiand of Islam) of their powers.

Lee Kuan Yew tried a similar social engineering with his graduate-marry-graduate to produce intelligent children which naturally proved to be fatal in the 80s.

Protection of individual rights and religious freedom is spelt out in our constitution and we must collectivelty stand by it and not be hoodwinked by Umno or PKR with their never ending agenda to divide and rule based on race, religion and culture.

All religions are merely cultural constructs counterproductive to positive social progress. There is nothing wrong with Islam if we don’t politise it.

Its tolerance to coexist with other religions has been there all along. Don’t blame Islam, blame yourself.
